Introducing the AST Power Bench
The Power Bench system is a concise, user friendly menu driven
program designed to run a Singer-Link AST Master Controller enabling the user to test and
align various AST system card. This system was originally developed to automate the AST
Test set (Bench) but can easily drive system cards from the simulators own Master
Controller.
If used properly this system will greatly enhance your trouble-shooting
abilities on the AST simulators. It is the users responsibility to take the necessary
precautions to avoid over-driving systems and/or circuits that are not internally
protected. As with any piece of test equipment it is advisable that the user have a
thorough understanding of both the Power Bench system and the AST circuitry.
The following is a display and instructions for the AST ESRD card:
Reference voltage adjustment.
1. Connect DVM between ground and blue test point.
2. Set pot BG94 to 7.5vdc.
Phase and sample adjustments.
1. Voltage on custom test should show 9.9vdc
2. Connect channel A of scope to green test point (sample phase) and Channel B to pin 79.
3. Scope setup: Time .5ms
Chan A .2v
green test point
Chan B 2v
pin 79tp
4. Adjust the 'sample phase' pot AD33 until the pulse observed at the green test point is
at the peak of the reference 26v 400hz signal of pin 79 (not critical as this relationship
will be fine adjusted later).
Channel alignment:
1. Scope setup: Time 20 s
Chan A .2v
Chan B
.2v pin 79tp
Set scope source to chan 1.
Move trigger level to set chan A to zero level.
2. With scope A probe at X2 (chan 0) adjust pots AD42 (master) and AW12 (fine) until a
phase difference of 100 s exists between the two displayed sign waves.
3. Repeat the fine adjustment procedure for the three remaining channels.
CH1 Z2 pot AW26
CH2 V2 pot AW36
CH3 S2 pot AW77
4. Connect scope A to any of above channels and adjust 'sample phase' AD33 to obtain
minimum output.
5. set scope to 'source normal', connect one channel to X2 and the other channel to one of
the other three channels. Adjust the 'channel phase' pot on the second channel to match
the first. Repeat for the two remaining channels.
Other cards may be custom designed, or pick from the circuit card library as the following examples show:
It is suggested that you select a complete system
including all support equipment and pre-fabricated cables as this will ensure system
compatibility and thorough testing upon delivery providing the user with a
"Turn-Key" system. It is not the practice of Star-One to "tack on"
additional cost for pre-assembled support equipment such as PCs, Mice, keyboard etc. You
will be billed only those expenses incurred by Star-One such as shipping, applicable
taxes, assembly charges and the actual costs of the support hardware. All the above listed
charges will be approved by you before the expenses are incurred. No surprises!
If you choose to order the minimum system, i.e. PC-HSD and Power Bench
software, it is recommended that you include a spare PC-HSD board in your order. Your
spare will not only provide you with a quick and easy way to trouble-shoot a suspected
Power Bench system problem but will also enable you to write your own programs utilizing
the PC-HSD to drive devices such as Visual, WXR, DCL and any other system using a standard
SEL HSD interface.
