SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers at Northwest Airlines (NWACQ (http://money.excite.com/jsp/qt/full.jsp?symbol_search_text=nwacq)) said Tuesday its members split their vote on the bankrupt airline's $190 million cost-cutting proposal. Northwest's proposal was accepted by the clerical, office, fleet and passenger service group and the plant protection group. A similar proposal was rejected by the equipment service and stock clerks and the flight simulator technicians and simulator support specialists. The union said it expects Northwest to ask a bankruptcy court to set a date for the resumption of the Section 1113(c) trial for the two groups that did not ratify the company proposal.

Hey, the media finally got our job titles right! I was kind of expecting at least something a bit more to be in the papers though... especially considering the whole Zacarias Moussaoui trial that's in the news every day now (it was our sim).

What this means is the NWA sim techs voted down the proposed contract by an fat 88% margin. There was also a strike vote that also passed with the same numbers.

From the union:

Washington, D.C., March 7, 2006 - Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) at Northwest Airlines (NWA) delivered a split decision today on the bankrupt airline?s $190 million cost cutting proposal.

In separate voting by classification, Northwest?s proposal was accepted by the 7,677-member Clerical, Office, Fleet and Passenger Service (COFPS) group by 67 percent and the 18-member Plant Protection (PP) group by 53 percent.

A similar proposal was rejected by the 5,632-member Equipment Service and Stock Clerks (ESSC) by 60 percent and the 42-member Flight Simulator Technicians and Simulator Support Specialists (SIMOP) by 88 percent.

Here we go with the strike talk again!

Spoke to a few Clerical, Office, Fleet and Passenger Service (COFPS) employees that voted FOR the NWA proposal.
The reason they all gave for the yes vote was that they wanted to "get back" to their 11%??
I must be failing at math, since I calculate the NWA proposal to be over 30% total pay reduction. Pay, vac, holidays, insurance, work rules, & etc.
NWA 'gave' the employees nwa stock in '93, and then reneged on their promise to pay. What is that nwa stock worth now?
Are they going to offer "slightly used TP" this time?att:

I liked the local paper's way of describing the vote:

From a PioneerPress article http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/business/14042500.htm

But Northwest's proposed deal for some 5,600 equipment service employees and stock clerks was soundly rejected, with 60 percent of voters giving it a thumbs-down. Also torpedoed was a deal for 42 flight simulator technicians and specialists. With that group, 88 percent of voting members favored rejection.

Who was it who once said, "If you stick a knife in my back, and then pull it halfway out, do you expect me to thank you?"
