Does anybody still have their old air force training books (ep/sets), 341X4 or X6? Or are we all still kicking ourselves in the butt for pitching them all those years ago? I'm also intersted in the 5 level cdc's, if you have them. If you do an you're interested in selling or loaning them, you can drop me a line at hmtennant@<hidden>

I still has my old CDC's but they are the 3 level. I didn't know there was a 5 level CDC. They are about useless with todays technology, but I've had em 22 years. I guess I'll keep em

Shortstop - It sounds like you went to tech school around the same time frame as me (July 83 - Dec 83).
I think that I may still have some CDC's for x4's and x6's somewhere in all my stuff (I'm still unpacking from my latest move). If I run across them, I might be persuaded to part with them. I'll let you know if I find them (might take some time though).

You guys make me feel old. When I left Chanute in 76, they didn't have X4 CDCs so I went from 3 to 7 level in about 6 months. (I already held a 7 in Avionics)

If I remember correctly-
X3 was for Analog Simulators
X4 was for Digital Simulators
X5 was Analog Landmass Simulator
X6 was Digital Landmass Simulator
They did not designate higher levels of the same carrer field. But you could get a 5 level as an X3 (for example).

Really?? Christ. All I can remember are the bars in Champaign-Urbana, and the huge refurbed bowling alley-turned- night club on the outskirts of Rantoul.
Landmass?? WTF is that?:smile1:

Landmass = radar.
Look for the blue glow around the power supply, that's where the fun's at!

Hey, I was back in the area a few months ago, and if you can believe it, the old sim tech/jet mech barracks is now a retirement home, complete with lawn chairs in the entry way. The old holiday inn jr apparently tried it as the "jesus inn", then went defunct. What a trip down memory lane that was. At any rate, anyone looking for me can now find me at hmtennant@<hidden>. Still looking for the CDC's, and can use either digital flight or landmass versions.

I thought
X4 was Flight Simulator Technician
X6 was Digital Navigation and Tactics Traing Devices Specialist
I was an x6 and our school was a week or two longer due to the class on the F4 radar landmass system.

Hey Sandy61
I was an X3, so I'm sure about that and X4. I was pretty sure X5 was landmass, and assumed that X6 would be digital landmass, but now that you jog two of the three remaining brain cells that I have, I must admit that you are correct about X6 being Digital Nav as I don't think there was such a thing as digital landmass when the AF was numbering these things. Is there such a thing as digital landmass now??
Ranger, wasn't the sim tech barraks a retirement home when you went through? Compared to most of the other barraks it seemed pretty relaxed to me at the time!

Close enough!
I?ve heard the Rantoul area is in economic ruin since the base closure. Can anyone verify that?
So you haven't heard of DRLMS I take it? All those 300mb disc drives were a bitch.

I wouldn't call it in ruin, but it is not booming either. I was thru there about a year ago. Went out to the base. Was surprised to see they had serviced the tires on the C-133 that had been sitting low wing for years. Most of the places I hung out are gone now.

DRLMS, oh man what a flash back. Was hoping those would have been erased from my memory. stress:
Ah come on. It wasn't that bad. I seem to recall it was pretty easy system to maintain. As long as the officers from mission gen were kept on a leash and you avoided the instant death power supplies.crossfing

Or having a software engineer crash 4 of the 5 disc drives with the same bad disc pack and all he could say was 'I was wondering why the drives were making that noise'. So after many head changes and alignments we finally got the 4 drives up again. Oh what a nightmare it was.

What disks, we had paper tapes to load ours. And I always hated it when we had to change the plates several times a week. We had 2 F111Ds and one usually had the western US and the other on changed plates constantly, and yes, I have been bitten by the flying spot scanner power supply, 35KV if I remember correctly

I would have loved to gotten hold of those plates, with a little backlighting and a way to hang them, they would have looked pretty cool mounted on a wall.
