OK - here's my pipedream:

I'd like to make an interactive webpage, first starting out with the US but eventually expanding out to worldwide, where a visitor can click on any location/state on a map grid and it would show ALL sims in that area. I would like civilian, military, commercial, reserves, private, power plant sims, nuke sims, everything.

The compiling of this may be too insane for me, but it would be worth a try as it would be great for someone to be able to get instant access to any sim availability in any location for job hunting purposes.

I can use the CAT database for civil aviation, but the military and private sides is a completely different ball of wax.

For starters, does anyone know of a DoD listing of sims? It has to be out there as it all contracted now. Perhaps something from Commerce Business Daily or something like that.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

andy,

try looking for a gov't sight then look under STRICOM(Simulation,Training, and instrumentation Command) which gives out army sim contracts. for the navy, it used to be NTSC(Navy Traning and Simulation Command). navy sims , some are in groton/new london, ct, bangor, wa, san diego, ca, norfolk, va, nuc power plants and sims were in idaho falls, idaho, and somewhere in up-state new york.
army sims were in ft. riley, ks, ft hood, tx., ft knox/elizabeth town, ky., ft dix/ picatiny arsonel, nj., aberdeen proving grounds, md., ft. collins, co., ft. benning, ga., to name just a few.

p.s. add fleetcombattrainingcenter, sandiego, but that was all military and civil sevrice maitained when i was there.
all the above are non avaition!!

The current Navy and Marine aviation stuff is under Naval Air Warfare Training Systems Division (Navair TSD) out of Orlando on Research Parkway. Here's the website, but in poking around I see that the inventory and location listing requires a logon.

Don't count on the sim-census. I mean, how many sims does Pan Am have in Minneapolis versus Northwest? Or versa-visa?

Yea, I saw the MSP Pan Am screwup in there... Pan Am is showing to have all of the sims which are actually Northwest Airlines sims. The NWA contact also left the company several years ago. purplex:

The DoD considers this information FOUO (for official use only). Although there are listings on .mil sites such as NAVAIR TSD these are generally password and access restricted to other .mil addresses. Additionally DoD personnel are more than discouraged from discussing these facts. What the public sees on these sites is what the command wants the public to see. Notwithstanding I did a search to see what I could find with respect to the system I support. While information was not on official sites I did find significant information concerning the training devices in my command.

This site has an list of which companies have which contract for which sims. It does not show the location of the sims. I think that this will some what help you out. The pages are on 46-59.
