Someone posted the category, so I figured that there ought to be a thread.

As these games get better they also get more addictive. Granted, in the late 1980's I used to spend the night after Second Shift playing Ultima III on my Commodore 64 until the sun came up...

With Diablo II I had 6 accounts, mostly for "mules" - characters created just for gear storage. After they updated to 1.10 I had to find something different. I tried Runescape, but skills building was too repetative and the game was too cartoonish. I then tried Shadowbane which I enjoyed except for the huge lag and disconnect problems. As these problems had been with the game for the last 3 years since its inception I gathered that there was never going to be a "fix" for them.

World of Warcraft has been one of the most hyped MMORPG's ever, with some good reason. The gaming powerhouse that is Blizzard Entertainment was behind it. While there are some minor lag issues (mostly in the larger cities) the game has been extremely enjoyable to play. With only a limited choice of Trade Skills (2 max of about 9 choices) and 3 base skills (fishing, cooking, first aid) for each "toon" less time is spent developing skills and more time spent completing quests. With the improved banking system and the ability to mail items to other "toons" on the same server the need for mules is eliminated.

well, that's my 2? worth.

What? No Acheron's Call? No EverQuest?
Never having played WoW or EverQuest, I can't say how gameplay compaires, but the AC skill system seems to be a bit less restrictive. As long as you have some skill rating in a weapon or magic skill, you can use that skill. Of course the lower the skill rating, the poorer the results are. i.e don't attack using an untrained skill, you just might get your butt handed to you.
The way to improve a skill is to train it, then sink unassigned xp into it, the more the better. Each toon has 5 or so very basic skills to start: a weapon skill, run, jump, loyality, salvage, (maybe one or two more that I can't remember) and basic stats. And enough skill points to train other optional skills to suit the toons type. And you can "earn" more skill points to train other skills as the toon progresses in level. I don't think that you can ever earn enough skill points to train all the skills, but as long as you stay with one or two weapon skills, you should be able to equip the toon with almost every skill you need... it just takes time.

Can't tell I play Ascheron's Call a lot, can you.

!!!!!!!!ARTHUR FLINT!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!WE KNOW YOUR IN THERE!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!STEP AWAY FROM THE KEYBOARD!!!!!!!!!
!!!!COME OUT WITH YOUR CARPEL TUNNELED HANDS HIGH!!!!!!!!!!

I've gotten into the first person shooters lately, namely Delta force TFD.
I like it because the skill resides between the keyboard and chair, not taking away from building a good char. I've had lvl 99 amazons, sorcs,, and well, all of them, and I know it takes skill to build them up right. I just got tired of keepin up with them. With TFD I log on and go strait to killin.lolhit:

Well I have played them all and more as most of you and still want something better. I recently thought I was breaking down to try WOW, honestly wish I had tried it sooner. It has MAJOR problems that most game have or will have and that is not enough choices (i believe we all want to have it our way). The questing in WOW if you keep changing toon and try to reside where you know things get repedative, but the world is HUGE, till you run around it and find out all places have a distinct similarity, wheather you go there to buy or to fight it all starts to look the same. Don't get me wrong it's still new enough for me that I am still having fun and finding new things, but if you have played non-stop form beta till now GET A LIFE, lol.

There are a lot of great games out there some that have a lot of grind and some like WOW that if you stick to one thing can actually be enjoyable.

AC1 is good I played it from Beta till end of last year with a year break just before I quit, and for that year I played AC2. I actually like AC2 a lot more than AC1 but only got the last year it was open to play, My bad. AC is a HUGE GRIND but fun.

EQ no real comment was a loss of time and life lol.

5-15 player first person shooters online, KEEP THE BABY's with the sitters do not let them play these games. Rated M means don't going crying to your MOMMA. Otherwise these would be great but too many CB's playing.

Throwing in a winner for solo play is Dungeon Siege I and II if you never played and like that style grab this one for those times you can't get online.

Have not tried D&D or lord of the rings AKA MEO Middle earth online, form what I hear not sure I want to. I welcome comments on these to help me decide.

I there are more and I have played some of them briefly but if they did not make the cut, well....
