I am attempting to update our rdb's using an FSI RDB editor. After making the necessary changes, saving the file, compiling the file I then need to copy the file from the fileserver the the host computer. Does anyone know how this is done and what I need to do to save it to the host computer ?

The SimNT editor is the only one that I know of that works this way. The others don't have to be promoted to make it into the training load. Which editor are you talking about? What is the host platform? Depending on the platform I may be able to help you out.

The sim I want to update is running from a NightHawk computer and an NT software. As far as I am aware, I can edit the RDB file and then that file would have to be copied over to the host. The way the IOS is setup , once everything is copied over, I would power down the IOS stations and upon rebooting the IOS's would see the changes.

Thanks for your help.

On this machine your changes will take effect at the next reboot of simulation. The only thing is that you won't be able to see any changes on the IOS until it has been set up as training in the IOS, and I am not certain on how to do this but I will try to find out for you. U can make frequency, position set, and NAV changes and they will work immediately but you will not notice them on the IOS map pages or the airport frequency pages though. Hope this helps.

P.S. This is an FSI sim right? Where are you located? Have you contacted SSD?

The way I see it, there are 2 known editors. The one that resides on the Sunserver and the other one that is run using windows enviroment.

They both have their pros and cons. I prefer using the SunServer one. Seems to be alot faster loading the file up.

Simulation is run by the Nighthawk (Host), but the actual RDB stuff is held on the SunServer

Once the changes have saved and compiled I normally restart the IOS. If you watch the event log you will see it loading up the RDB file. This will show the changes immediately even though the Sim will not see them.

But to include the changes in the actual simulation you have to stop then restart the simulation (from simmon)

Hope that helps

Ok, I found some documentation on this. As I understand it, you will first compile the file in the editor, this will compile the pre_fsi_rdb1.bin file. Then you will need to compile it with an external compiler(external to the editor) and that will convert it into the fsi_rdb.bin file that is loaded when you restart the IOS. Restart the IOS screens and you should be good to go. Hope this helps,

Josh
