Ok, I'm not the greatest at figuring this stuff out, so I'd like to see if anyone here can help me.
I'm running win xp on my home computer with internet exploder. On some of the sites I visit, the pictures don't show up. All I get is a little box with a red x in it. What setting do I need to turn on to get the pictures to load.

this happens to me all the time. i switched to mozzilla firefox for my internet browser, and am in my 4th day of eval and it seems o.k. there are some sites that don't recognize it, but they are not that important. i never figured out the red x thing either. with firefox i haven't seen it yet.

Try this:

When you get the box with the red-x, do a right mouse click and select "show picture". This will refresh just the image.

If it loads okay this way then it may just be a timeout issue.

I tried this to no avail, I'm wondering if there is a setting that I'm overlooking.

None that I can think of. The box with the red-x means that your pc did not find the image where the website said it should be. A lot of times when this happens it is the website's fault and not yours. They may have changed something and forgot to update the page links.

This may also happen if you are using a dial-up modem and have connected at a really crappy speed. Sometimes the page may time out... but the right mouseclick trick that I mentioned earlier would of ruled that one out.

One other thing that comes to mind might be a firewall type of program. Does your pc have any sort of filtering software which is installed to protect kids playing on the web? Popular rating filters such as Net Nanny may also do this.

Go ahead and post a link to a page on here that you are having probems with, and I'll see if it works on my end.

I looked at the page code from the web site that I was having trouble with and it was their problem. The pictures with the x-es in them were indeed missing the pictures.

Scroll down a little ways and you'll see the red x. Check the properties and you'll see that the file is missing. Just sloppy web page making.

Thanks Andy!
