Hello,
My name is Jason Walter and I just graduated from Lake Region State College with an AAS degree in Simulator Maintenance Technology.
I am looking for an entry level tech position or higher and will move if needed. I don't mind working days or nights. I held two jobs while attending college so I don't mind working long hours. I would appreciate any information on job opportunities civil or military. I know I would be an asset to an employer because I'm a team player who doesn't mind staying till the job is done.
Any information from Altus AFB OK, or Minot AFB ND would be greatly appreciated.
If there are any further questions or if anybody would like a copy of my resume feel free to contact me at my email address.

Altus is a good place to get yourself into the career field. Rent isn't to bad, however, you need to go to Lawton for any real shopping since all Altus had (at least when I left) only a Walmart and a Sears. There are some good folks working down there. FlightSafety has the KC-135R and C-5B contracts, I believe Boeing has the C-17. Keep your eyes open, here in the next couple of months, there are several military contracts up for rebid and those companies will be looking for warm bodies.

Go to www.flightsafety.com (http://www.flightsafety.com) and hit the jobs link. There are open Tech spots all over the country.

Waste of time filling out apps for 'upcoming' contract bids. They usually keep the same folks. Try FSI website. They are hiring all levels of experience. Alteon...well , they they like to hire cheap, but I think you can do better elsewhere. Try the CAE website also.Boeing generally already hae the jobs spoken for when they advertise.

CAE is hiring for the A340 in Oklahoma City (FAA). check the CAE site. Not sure when they expect to interview ... or deliver the Sim.
I heard since Altus simtechs got a contract they have not had a vacancy, and not likely to anytime soon. Just last year they couldn't get anyone out to even interview, now they are turning em away.

Our new guy came from there. He says if you like a super high cost of living and tough politics at work, then that's the place for you.

The expensive part I can agree with (but where can you live cheap and make a good wage?) The political part.... There are only six techs here (how can you have tough politics with that few people?)huh4: Personal issues maybe, Politics, I don't think so.
We cover 7/24. Our SQT works days with the SFTD, we have two techs on swings and three on mids. We all work Monday through Friday and pull two 12's every three weeks on a rotational basis (the weekend you work you have Friday, Monday and Tuesday off). We have 6 sims and another on the way (Beech 1900D). Techs are rotated from swings to mids every four months.
We need self motivated people that can work with the minimum of supervision, are willing to learn using the tech data available to them and understand that 'work' isn't a bad four letter word!

I lived in Altus for four years and I payed 24k for a brick house across from the reservour. The good old days. You won't find much cheaper anywhere else in the country. I grew up in Minnesota. Been to Minot in the wintertime. If you've been to Siberia in the winter like I have, the climate is about the same. If you want to build time in sims, Altus is a cheap place to live. Gas isn't any more expensive than anywhere else. Small town. Although the Altus community center (Wal-mart) is open 24/7! Not much of a night life for young people, unless you like the one biker bar and the one cowboy boot scootin' place. Buy a horse and go roping I guess. I probably would have ended up that way if I had stayed! horse:

Where in Siberia were you, I have been to Tomsk and Novosibirsk. And that was one time in the winter and once in the summer. And to Moscow also, summer time

Omsk In December. Brrrrrr!!!!!! Not much colder than Minnesota. I bought one of them beaver hats. For chasing beavers. They shave them even as cold as it gets!
I was in Moscow during the Paul Mcartney Concert May 2003.
